Re: Games I suck at…or don’t…

Tami at Cuppytalk made this post the other day. It got me thinking at all the games I suck at! There are lots. But since I don’t ever want anything in my life to be fully negative I’m adding in the ones I am good at too. ;)

Shooters

I suck at these very much. In fact, they actually make me sick much of the time…I get like vertigo. EverQuest used to give me the same disorienting feeling when I first started playing a billion years ago. It took me about 3 weeks of constant playing to get over it. I haven’t dedicated that much time to any shooters yet but maybe with Halo 3 just releasing I can try and overcome this issue with some friends who will help me hold my interest in it.

Racing

I probably suck at these. I hate them tho so I’ve never really played them enough to know if I suck or not! Actually I lie…I was pretty fucking good at F-Zero…not sure if that counts…but people at Acclaim refused to play me after awhile because of my skillz.

Puzzle

I will hand you your ass in puzzle games. :) Lumines, Puzzle Quest, Jewel Quest, whatever…I will probably pwn you. Most of my 360 achievements are coming from these stupid things… /shame

RPG

Depends on the game, for the most part I’m pretty good.

RTS

Again, depends on the game. But not as good as say with RPGs.

Action/Adventure

Pretty good at these. I used to be better when I was younger for some reason…that kinda worries me. Gaming skills shouldn’t disappear with age…I am I’m not even 30 yet. I hate the button mashing ones.

Sports

I suck HARD. Probably even harder than with NGTT. I’m piss poor at them all. Football, baseball, soccer, whatever. The only ones I was decent at were the Legends of Wrestling ones (check out that hot review…) and that’s only because I worked on them so I had lots of hands on time.

MMOs

Any of the ones I actually cared about I was good at. Good is such a subjective term tho in these kinda of games. When I was playing EverQuest I was one of the top necros on the sever in one of the top guilds server-wide. I was one of the fastest to level when the caps were increased, etc, blah, etc.

I’m not like that in EverQuest II but I’d like to think I am still good. I raid when I can at a high level when I’m not working.

I played even less of WoW but I think I will still OK at it. I only ever played it because friends were playing. Not sure why I bothered playing, I mean I never did drugs when I was growing up even tho all my friends did… There are of course others but it’s not even worth mentioning.

I think that covers the majority of genres. If I didn’t mention it…I probably suck at it. :) Oh well, you can’t be good at everything! ;)

MMOs ftw certanly, but I have been playing shooters on PC for past 10 years and was never really great at them, but always had fun. I did pick up Halo 3 on Tues, and there really isn’t anything amazingly new about it (although the movie stuff is pretty cool) but the actual game is very well “polished” and over all really is just a great game. It will probably pull me back into shooters, and between it ncaa, and Carcasone/Catan might get me playing more 360 than PC (at least till Kunark).

I’m such a unique type of gamer- it actually frustrates other gamers. I never care if I win, and I don’t think I have a competitive bone in my body. I mean, I love to play a game against a friend, but most of the time I lose predominately because I don’t “want it” as bad as the other person.

When it comes to MMGSs (read my blog on why I call MMOs that =P), I REALLY drive people nuts. I’ve never experienced a level treadmill because I just do whatever makes me happy- if I’m having fun chasing a sheep around the gameworld yelling “moo” at it, I’ll do that, darn it! =P I also annoy people when it comes to “gifts”- I refuse to accept anything from other players for free, even a copper, so every time I’ve tried to join a guild, I’ve been showered with offers of better weapons and such, and I have to figure out how to decline without offending anyone (rarely works- people get irked)! If you see me in EQ2 or WoW (or any other game of the sort) you know whatever I have, I got myself, period! (And that’s why what I have normally sucks, hehe.)

I love all game types, though- only things I don’t care tons for are “videogames”, which I define as anything arcadey, button-mashy or otherwise “thoughtless”. I’d rather play games that immerse you in a story or make you think is some form! I love shooters and RTSs, sports games and the like, but I rarely multiplay. Ultimately though, if it’s a game, I’m for it- I’d rather have minesweeper than nothing!

My favorite type of game though, is perfectly displayed in things like Civ IV, Diablo 2, or the upcoming going-to-be-the-greatest-game-ever Spore- infinitely replayable, always random, and epic in content and potential!

I dunno, Cat! I bet you’re better than you let on at some of these game types… I just know you have mad skillz, and you’re probably lulling people into a false sense of security so you can CRUSH them when they come across you in-game. =P
